Frequently asked

Quick answers on getting from Palm Springs to a soak — the closest options, day passes in Desert Hot Springs, adults-only pools, lodging and the desert season.

What is the closest hot spring to Palm Springs?

The Spa at Séc-he (Agua Caliente Cultural Plaza) is the closest, about 2m by car in downtown Palm Springs. The tribal spa draws on the Agua Caliente Hot Mineral Spring; guests must be 18 or older. The hotel pools of Desert Hot Springs are about 22m north across the valley.

Can you visit the Desert Hot Springs pools without staying overnight?

Often, yes, but rules differ by hotel. Sam’s Family Spa sells day passes first come, first served; Azure Palm sells an Oasis Day Pass; Two Bunch Palms offers a limited Mineral Soak Day Pass; Tuscan Springs sells day use of its pools. Some places are for overnight guests only or change their day-use terms by season, so check the listing and book ahead on weekends.

Is the water in Desert Hot Springs naturally hot?

Many of the town’s hotels pump water from the hot aquifer beneath the town. Tuscan Springs says its 350-foot well brings up water naturally heated to 117°F, Azure Palm draws on two private wells, and Sam’s Family Spa describes its pools as geothermal. A few hotels do not say where their water comes from; each listing notes what we could confirm.

Which hot springs near Palm Springs are adults only?

The Spa at Séc-he and Glen Ivy admit guests 18 and older, Tuscan Springs and the pools at Jacumba Hot Springs are 21 and older, and Azure Palm is an adults-only resort. For families, Sam’s Family Spa, the family pools at Murrieta Hot Springs, Glamis North and Agua Caliente County Park welcome children.

Which hot springs near Palm Springs have lodging or camping?

Most Desert Hot Springs pools belong to small hotels, so a room usually includes soaking. Murrieta Hot Springs and Jacumba Hot Springs are hotels with day passes for non-guests. Sam’s Family Spa and Glamis North add RV sites and cabins, and Agua Caliente County Park has a county campground. Glen Ivy is a day-use spa with no rooms.

When is the best time to visit?

The desert season runs from fall to spring. Agua Caliente County Park is open from Labor Day weekend through Memorial Day and closes in the summer heat, and Glamis North runs on a season that starts in late October. The Desert Hot Springs hotels are open year-round.
