Frequently asked

Quick answers on getting from Bozeman to a soak — the closest options, day-trip range, Yellowstone, lodging and swimsuit rules.

What is the closest hot spring to Bozeman?

Bozeman Hot Springs is the closest, about 14m by car from downtown, with indoor and outdoor pools and day passes.

Can you visit a hot spring near Bozeman as a day trip?

Yes. 9 of the 10 springs on this page are within a two-hour drive, and most sell day passes. The exceptions are Pipestone Village & Hotsprings and Fairmont Hot Springs Resort, where the pools are for overnight guests only.

Can you soak in hot springs inside Yellowstone?

Not at the Boiling River. The National Park Service says swimming there has not been possible since the 2022 floods, and the Firehole swim area is a seasonal river swim rather than a hot spring. The nearest soaking pools are just outside the park: Yellowstone Hot Springs north of Gardiner and Chico in the Paradise Valley.

Which hot springs near Bozeman have lodging?

Chico has its historic lodge, cabins and wagon glamping; Yellowstone Hot Springs has suites, cabins and campsites; Boulder Hot Springs is a historic inn; Spa Hot Springs in White Sulphur Springs has a motel and cabins; and Jackson Hot Springs Lodge has rooms and cabins. Fairmont is a full hotel, and Norris and Bozeman Hot Springs have campgrounds.

Do the hot springs near Bozeman require swimsuits?

Mostly yes. Where a rule is published, the pools on this page require swimwear. Boulder Hot Springs publishes no rule and outside sources disagree, and the tubs at Pipestone are private to each cabin. Each listing notes the clothing policy where we have it.
